About Bermagui CTC

Bermagui CTC is located in the Bermagui Community Centre, in Bunga Street Bermagui. Bermagui is in a very beautiful part of far southeast NSW, with wilderness areas, grey-green eucalypts covering foothills, spectacular bays, rocky headlands and pristine sandy beaches. Its economic base depends largely on the tourist industry and until recently, the fishing industry.

The CTC was set up in 2003 by dedicated community volunteers with a particular interest in making information technology available to all members of this coastal community of about 2,000 people. Our full name is Bermagui Community Technology Centre Incorporated, and we are officially a Not for Profit incorporated community organisation.

Bermagui CTC is run by a committee, who meet bimonthly to offer support and ideas for the centre's staff. Current executive are Peter Bray Chairperson, Ann Montague Assistant Chairperson, Mary McFarlane, Secretary, Bev Bray Treasurer. Paid staff work 4 days per week, and a volunteer supervisor works one day per week,  with the centre being open five days. We serve business and individual clients from the town and the surrounding villages and farming districts, and tourists and visitors from all over the world.

The CTC  provides computer and internet access, and printing and office services to the public, at reasonable prices. We try to keep our prices in reach of everyone, and are always willing to discuss discounts for people and organisations with limited income, and for large orders.

The CTC has contracts to offer free community access to the NSW government website, and the Australian Taxation Office website. As well we distribute ATO booklets and forms.

Another portion of the CTC’s income comes from operating the Bermagui Centrelink Access Point, which offers free fax and phone link with Centrelink and a wide range of leaflets and forms.

One of Bermagui CTC’s favourite projects is hosting the bermagui.net website, which offers all kinds of helpful information for locals and visitors to the Bermagui area. Costs are covered by charging for links to websites, and webhosting services to community organisations.

The CTC earns further income from hosting people doing Work for the Dole. Work for the Dole staff are very helpful assistants to users of the Centre, and receive training and supervision in their work at the CTC, which may be for one or two days per week for six months. We are also registered with Centrelink to offer voluntary work placements to older jobseekers.
